I agree that all of the pieces were essential for me, as a reader. It elevated Geryon's tale from being just a story and emphasized the ideas that were mentioned within it. In this way, Anne Carson created her own history and life for, what amounted to, a side note in Stesichoros' original work. I read “Autobiography of Red” last semester. We made it from LA to the Grand Canyon in one day, then AZ and NM to Texas on day two, then TX and Oklahoma to MO today.... 10 hours of driving each day...
